![]() What is a Chac Mool? (internet investigation)Ĭhac Mool is a type of sculpture denominated pre-Colombian mesoamerican which appeared at the beginning of the Postclassic period. The violence of the Chac Mool, breaking the house, the anger, the glowing eyes, the masses of water… These all should be further explored.ģ. On the other hand it is a story filled with rich symbolism and surely plenty of references and thoughts we did not manage to catch. ![]() This theory is also supported by the last paragraph of the story, which describes the (presumably) Chac Mool figure having come to life and reached its near full-human form in which it is a “repulsive yellow indian” man covered in make up and hair dye to appear normal. The Chac Mool representing these lower classes striking back their revenge. As to what he may represent, one theory to play with is that this privileged lifestyle i the capital represents exactly that, the group of people in Mexican society who are above the lower classes and who might be cultured enough to want to dirty their hands exploring the old traditions and rituals of ancient religious figures, indigenous culture etc. ![]() Based on his government job, large house and ability to pursue hobbies such as travelling and exploring what to him seems to be exotic things like the Chac mool, we think he is of the mid-to upper class in his time. Who is Filiberto? What does he do? What class is he from? What might he represent?įiliberto is the main character and what can be called the victim of the story. There are sporadic skips of place and time, intensifying the drama and diary-style narrative.Ģ. In this diary we read of the dramatic, paranoid and emotional process of his dragged-out dying, and all that happened after purchasing the Chac Mool. The story is narrated by Filiberto’s friend at the start he narrates what happened to Filiberto, but proceeds to find Filiberto’s diary upon which the rest of the reading is based.
